The “White” Party

Last night I went to a white party. They served food that would mess up white outfits if we were not careful. I joked with a few ladies at my table as I tried as CUTE and SAFE as possible to eat my barbecue food and not drop anything on my white.

I was careful because getting something on that white would have been pretty upsetting. Who wants their clothes ruined? This would be extremely bad for those pictures that you take with your friends. It would have been very bad and everyone would have noticed it and probably would have thought…. SOMETHING…

This reminds me of so much. It really reminds me of the challenges that Black women face. We have to hold ourselves up and present ourselves in a very “neat” … way… like we have to always pretend we are something that we are not.

The challenges exceed this, but this is one of the reasons why we must uplift each other so even when or if we drop something on our “white” we can remember and we can know that life will go on and those pictures are not ruined…

#ThisThingCalledLife…Be you! Don’t be too cute that you miss being you!
